1925
Holy Name of Jesus Parish was established.

Father Richard J. Ryan was assigned as our first Pastor.

125 families
Vast expanse of sand dunes.
Parish boundaries Lincoln Way (N), 30th Ave (E),
Pacheco St. (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).

1926
On Easter Sunday Mass celebrated in the first actual church
A temporary structure on the west side of 38th Avenue between
Irving and Judah Streets.

1940
Construction of Church and school began- located on Lawton Street
between 39th and 40th Avenues.

1941
First permanent Holy Name of Jesus Church dedicated
at 40th Ave and Lawton Street. (Present Parish Hall and Gym).
Holy Name of Jesus School opened staffed by the
Sisters of Mercy with an enrollment of 300 children.

1947
Convent built on 39th Avenue between Kirkham and Lawton Streets
and the school expanded to increase capacity to 900 students.

1950
Silver Anniversary of the founding of the Parish.

1956
On November 5, Father Richard J. Ryan, First Pastor, died.

Rev. Msgr. William J. Flanagan appointed second Pastor of the Parish.

1962
Rectory was moved across the street to present location
39th Avenue and Lawton St.
On September 30, the first spade of earth turned and construction
officially began on California's most advanced Contemporary Church.

1964
On April 5, 4:00 p.m. the New Holy Name of Jesus Church was solemly dedicated.

1966
Church converted to Parish Hall/Gymnasium.

1968
Parish Council formed.

1975
Golden Anniversary and founding of the Parish.

1978
Rev. Msgr. William J. Flanagan celebrated the 50th Anniversary of
his ordination to the priesthood and retired as Pastor Emeritus.

1984
Canossian Sisters come to Holy Name as Parish Sisters.

1987
On May 17, the new Flanagan Center is dedicated.

1988
On June 5, the 60th Anniversary of Rev.Msgr. William J.Flanagan's
Ordination was celebrated.

On October 16, a Thanksgiving Liturgy were celebrated in
Thanksgiving for the canonization of Saint Magdalen of Canossa,
Foundress of the Canossian Sisters.

1989
On April 16, the Silver Anniversary of the dedication of the
New Holy Name of Jesus Church is celebrated.

1990
On July 1, Rev. William P. Quinn is appointed fourth Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish.

1991
On September 9, Knights of Holy Name is founded.

1994
On December 29, Msgr. William J. Flanagan, Second Pastor, died.

1995
Ordination of Dennis Rivera to the order of Deacon.

1999
On June 30, Rev. William P. Quinn retired as Pastor

On July 1, Rev. Donald S. D'Angelo appointed as Fifth Pastor

2009

On July 1, Rev. Arnold Zamora appointed as Administrator
